Good Game Get! Spirits
Sprits is a low-speed puzzle platformer designed by the rad design team, Spaces of Play. The game gets its charm from its great art design, and level design. You control spirits only by clicking up them, making them stay stationary, and transforming them into something that can help other spirits reach the goal. For example, one of your first powers to give to a Spirit is a blowing wind...

Good Game Get! Dear Esther
Dear Esther is a beautiful first person game in which through slow pacing and player patience; a narrative unfolds before you. The world is incredibly encompassing and heartbreaking and my afternoon became lost in it’s folds.
The environment design in Dear Esther is one of the best I’ve ever seen and I dare say it - it has the most intelligent linearity I’ve seen as well. The...

Simon Parkin's New Under $15 Video Game Magic...
I don’t feel like writing a full blog post, but I will write three faux-quotes to inspire you to check out Hookshot.
“A celebration of what fifteen dollars can still get you in the year twenty twelve.”
“Simon Parkin has become prophetic in his championing of downloadable titles all the while denouncing the importance and life of hand-me-down game pusher...

Good Senior Photo Get!
There are five very good things happening in this photo.
1. That large GameBoy Advance (Glacier variant) looks really comfy to sit on.
2. His GameCube shirt is legitimately rad.
3. I can’t tell if he is holding a Wave Bird wireless GCN controller or a smaller GameBoy Advance. Either way it’s video game related I’m sure. Awesome.
4. He clearly has pretty hefty GameBoy...

Good Game Get! Realistic Summer Sports Simulator
Justin Smith has done it again.
First he created the most accurate virtual representation of bear hibernation that even puts naturalist, David Attenborough and his wonderful voice to shame. After that he took on the incredibly daunting task of giving the historically correct account of The Oregon Trail a chance. He has thrice succeeded in his goal of complete realism and has created the...

Good Game Get! MIRRORMOON
Santa Ragione’s Global Game Jam game, MIRRORMOON uses my favorite graphical aesthetic ever - which consists of low-polygonal shapes and bright colors.
Perfect.
It’s a short title that could immaturely be described as first person puzzler. While it has it’s puzzle mechanics, it felt like nothing I’ve played before. I consistently was quietly talking to myself in little...
THE MINIMALIST ZELDA: WHAT FUMITO UEDA DID THAT...
One cannot deny the influence of all of Nintendo’s original franchises on gaming. It’s very clear that a game like Fumito Ueda and Team ICO’s Shadow of the Colossus would not exist. The commonalities between Zelda and Shadow of the Colossus are apparent but end very quickly at the basics.
Shadow of the Colossus if described simply to someone would be, “a game in which...

Good Game Get! Super Mario 3D Land
If I told you that Super Mario 3D Land was the truest 3D Mario game you’d think that I was making a joke about the stereoscopic “3D” emphasis of the title or you’d think I was being insane because the most awesome 3D Mario game came out in 1996.
The truth is that back in 1996 when you and I were fumbling our hands around that Nintendo 64 controller while trying to play...

Good Game Get! Spell Tower
I’m terrible at Scrabble, Words With Friends, and even though I found it totally cool - I’m awful at Quarrel too. Zach Gage isn’t really good at these games either, or at least I would assume so as he hates the genre.
He however is the dude who crafted Spell Tower, a delightfully minimal and easy to pick up word game for iPad. Spell Tower is a mash-up of Tetris and a kinetic...

If you donated it’s almost time to get your gift!
Thanks so much to everyone, and I hope all of you are doing well. I’m settling in after a move, gearing up for the season (I work retail), and finishing up school. I look forward to blogging a bit more regularly starting Wednesday.
Thanks for reading.

COD:MW3 is Definitely Oscar Mike
Seriously, the campaign is only five hours long, but the only time you get to stop and catch your breath is during the frenetic and often overly “info-graphic” dense cut scenes — which is a lot like trying to catch a quick nap on the subway.
All the reviews pin this one down well. If you love MW you’re going to buy MW3. If you don’t you won’t. I had a blast...

OutRun 2011 Mock-Up

Double Fine Announcements Today!
And the world waits with impatient silence…
So according to news bouncing around the intertubes, Double Fine will be making a huge announcement today! Six games! Some are easy to guess, like Costume Quest on Steam. But with the company’s recent forays onto Mac and the iOS store, other guesses are quite fuzzy. I would love to see a revamped Brutal Legend, and we all want a...

Good Game Get! ICO & Shadow of the Colossus...
It’s not quite a consolation for the numerous delays and shows in which The Last Guardian wasn’t even mentioned, but a budget priced high definition collection of two of my favorite games is welcome.
Fumito Ueda, Kenji Kaido and Team Ico’s Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are quintessential play for any gamer. Their work is truly masterful, and for Ico and Shadow of The...

Hey! You Can Play Psychonauts on a Mac!!!
Actually, was there a way to play it natively before Steam?
Ahhh, who cares! Double Fine’s Psychonauts is one of my favorite games. Top five, maybe top three. It’s now on Steam for Mac & PC, available with achievements, cloud saves and controller support. Yay!
Such a great game. Now when can we expect Grim Fandango?
Update: It’s also on the Mac App Store.

The "Binding of Isaac" Has a Fantastic Soundtrack
The purposely disturbing, Zelda-esque roguelike, The Binding of Isaac, hit Steam yesterday. It’s a creepy, hard game. It’s only five bucks.
It’s soundtrack is awesome!
Composed by video game music genius, Danny Baranowsky, the artist behind the amazing Super Meat Boy score, Isaac’s soundtrack matches the game perfectly, fittingly moody and filled with an...

Good Game Get! Kirby Mass Attack
I’m going to keep this short and sweet… because that’s Kirby. Not since I played through Bowser’s Inside Story have I experienced the extraordinary perfection of craft that is Nintendo game design… until now. Kirby may not be hard core, or even hard, but it is the epitome of a well made game.
If you’re not a fan of the series, or of Nintendo-style gameplay,...

Says Goat Up when you die.
Llmasoft’s vertical platformer is a silly venture upwards with a simple and pure goal of topping the score, and copulating with other goats for babies. The babies are important because you can hit enemies with them, and you can avoid enemies too by whipping yer kids around.Your billy goat and co. will pass...

Great Week for Downloadable Gems
As this monster game release season continues to roll on, it’s easy to miss the smaller games so often over-shadowed by their A-list retail brethren. This week alone offers several unique and classic games across multiple platforms. Below are just three, but if you’re a fan of indies and downloadables, there’s no better time to revisit your platforms of choice.

Good Game Get! Solatorobo: Red the Hunter
CyberConnect2 is mostly known for the popular PS2 dot Hack series and various Naruto titles. A little known title they made was called Tail Concerto,(for the PS1) which featured very similarly styled art and characters to Solatorobo. It’s fantastic to see the company still intact, and still making games that are their own.
Solatorobo aesthetics are some of the most whimsical and...

"The Reports of my Death are Greatly Exaggerated"
As quoted from Mark Twain & the Nintendo DS…
I’m getting a little tired of stories referencing the death of the Nintendo DS. I’ve been seeing features on its demise since the 3DS was announced last year and, even now, with Nintendo’s latest handheld floundering under the weight of a dozen bad decisions, every article that mentions the DS points to the fact that...

Here’s the official news:
In honor of the 25th anniversary, Nintendo is offering a free classic game for a limited time. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition will be available to...

Unlimited Lives Anyone?
It’s no question that our games and our game systems are far more efficient and superior to what we started out with.
Trust me, there is no way I’m bashing Atari, or for those true gamers, Magnavox Odyssey.
Compared to Xbox 360 and PS3 they stand no chance. Let’s step aside for a second and forget about graphics, because to be honest, when you hear about how far we have...

Definitive Version of "Cave Story" Now on Mac
Wow! The latest version of my favorite pixellated platformer just kinda appeared on Mac! Cave Story+ landed on Apple’s App Store (mine’s downloading as I write this) today and it comes with a lot of extras thanks to the last year’s Wii port. On the docket is a new translation, remastered soundtrack, usb gamepad support (huzzah!) and a new level by creator Daisuke ‘Pixel’ Amaya...

Pokémon as Muse, or This is Just Effing Brilliant
There’s some amazing Pokémon fan art out there, but this collection might just be my favorite.

I can’t mention any Pokémon art with...

The U.S. Kirby That Wasn't Angry
Everybody is always talking ‘bout how Americans get angry Kirby on all of our box art. Well on March 24, 2000 that wasn’t true.
Because this is what you would’ve seen:
Look how happy that Kirby is!
So the next time some punk ass games blogger posts something on the internet about how we never receive happy Kirbys, you direct ‘em right back here and let ‘em...

The Real Texas
Holy cow - this looks rad.
To think you’d combine Zelda and some old RPG elements with a rancher in an alternate universe Texas. It’s almost genius. More importantly though is the execution - which looks to be excellent judgin’ by those graphics and sounds.
Seriously though, I really can’t believe how wonderful those graphics look. Almost perfect people, almost...

It's Official! Fourth Layton Includes "London...
Nintendo dropped a few bits of North American news over the weekend, including an October 17th release date for Professor Layton and the Last Specter (and something about a gold wiimote). But the big news in the press release was the announcement that the 100 hour Layton RPG “London Life” from Mother 3 creator Brownie Brown will be included. Yay! Here’s a...

Good Game Get! Bastion
There are just too many games. It’s one of those good/bad things about the industry. Now that indie developers are creating masterpieces, how can we ever play them all? Writing about my favorite game of the summer, I feel like I dropped the ball. Even though it was only released a couple weeks ago, I’m a little late to the party. The torrent of fall games has begun —...
