Good Game Get! Burn Zombie Burn
My girlfriend and I picked up the excellent Burn Zombie Burn Playstation Network game yesterday. We felt it was appropriate as we had just come down from a week and a half of playing the awesome Resident Evil 5. The DoubleSix zombie burning title is in the vein of classic score chasing arcade titles and that’s really where its most refreshing. The new twist to this great title is the...

gregory weir's sugarcore
Gregory Weir has released his game for March and it’s a simple puzzle game with some new features you probably haven’t seen in puzzle games before. For one, Sugarcore is all about mouse gameplay and you move the mouse to spin a sugar wheel around to collect points. The game’s premise is to mine candy using the bullets that are headed towards the core, without actually...

dragon quest magnets
Good friend, Aaron M. Fitzwater sent me these delightful Dragon Quest Dot Monster magnet toys as a gift. They’re absolutely awesome, and complete with a background magnet and a stand, and are surprisingly more fun than some Dragon Quest games.

grand theft auto: china town wars
I never really thought I’d legitimately enjoy a Grand Theft Auto game, but GTA on the DS is absolutely superb. The gameplay is tight, the missions are fun, the city is sprawling, and the animations and graphics are the best I’ve seen on the DS. It almost resembles a low-res Dreamcast game instead of an N64 game. So cool. I’ll write more about the game when I get closer to...

bizarre box art
What in the hell could this game possibly be about, besides floating farm objects, animals, and people? Maybe that’s just it, maybe that’s all it was about. Source.

mother 3 ebay hunting
Every now and then I get an itch to explore eBay for Mother 3 goods. A lot of the material are really ridiculous fan-mangas that involve the characters in ways that series creator, Itoi probably would be weirded out to see. However, with most all things, diamonds in the rough do exist and I stumbled upon this piece today. While not a very distinctive art style, the choice to have Lucas...

good game get! henry hatsworth in the puzzling...
According to Henry Hatsworth, a gentleman is only gentleman because of how he dresses, but clearly Mr. Hatsworth is of the humble sort as his class and attitude radiate throughout the entire adventure. Whether Master Henry is treating his assistant with respect, or beating up evil creatures with his mechanized robot suit, he’s doing it with style and class. He even beats down a womanizing...

Today I had the wonderful chance to speak with video game and interactive art designer, Gregory Weir who had just returned from the Flash Gaming Summit in California. His recent game, the Majesty of Colors recently reached one million plays and his other unique flash games are doing great as well. Good Game Get! So how are you doing? Gregory I’m all right. San Francisco was...

spudd 64 writes a rebuttal to my "Debunking...
Good friend, spudd 64 has written a rebuttal to my emotion in video games post. His argument is very strong and he calls me out on some very particular things that I said. While I still stand by my original feelings towards Aerith, spudd 64’s rebuttal definitely helps me take a less pointed stance in the argument. While I would say that most lean towards spudd 64’s way of thinking, I...

yoshi was a tease back in '96
When you collect all 120 stars in Super Mario 64, you can jump in the cannon and shoot Mario to the top of the castle. There you’ll meet Yoshi and he’ll congratulate you, give you a bunch of lives, and a new third jump. After which, he jumps into the waterfall and vanishes forever. This is of course absolute bull shit, because Nintendo should have let the player ride Yoshi...

reapers
Dear reader, If and when you make it to the reapers in Resident Evil 5. Please send me a detailed strategy as to how to kill them. I know you have to aim for the white bulbous mass that occasionally appears, but then they release the gas. After which Sheva and I typically find our entrails being ejected from our bodies. I would provide an image of them, but I’d spoil it. Besides,...

Reaching Out of the Screen To Tug At Your Heart...
The Art of Emotion in Video Games and Debunking Sadness in Final Fantsy VII I never cried when Aerith died in Final Fantasy VII. Supposedly a lot of players did, and I never quite understood why. I was fifteen when I finished the game and after five years of being away from it, I can say in retrospect that I was right to not feel much of a connection to Aerith. Aerith was an extremely flat...

good game get! blue dragon plus
When Final Fantasy creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi left Square-Enix he went to Microsoft Studios and started his own game company which he called Mist Walker. One of the first games to come out of Mist Walker was Blue Dragon for the Xbox 360. Blue Dragon Plus for the Nintendo DS is the sequel to that game. While it doesn’t feature any of the turn-based combat of the first title, it does...

the ocarina of ryhme
Team Teamwork has released one of the most ridiculous rap mash-up albums ever with Ocarina of Ryhme. The album mashes up The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time tracks with rappers from Aesop Rock to Jay Z. Here is my favorite track from the album: Slim Thug & Mike Jones - Still Tippin’ (Great Fairy’s Fountain) You can download the whole album, here.

Resident Evil 5
My girlfriend reserved Resident Evil 5 for me as my Valentine’s Day gift, and I must say that it’s been quite the V-Day gift since we started playing it last night. While it’s incredibly similar to Resident Evil 4, one thing is for sure, the co-op is spot on and is one of the best if not the best co-op game I’ve ever played. Capcom truly without a doubt, hit the mark with...

hand-made mother 3 soundtracks
Back when I was obsessed* with Mother 3 after the fan translation came out, my wonderful girlfriend crafted up some pirated Mother soundtracks for me. They slay me with cuteness. * She says I was obsessed. I say I enjoyed it a lot.

A Low Tolerence for Hard Games and Level Grinding
When I didn’t have a job and a life to attend to, I used to have plenty of time to devote to hard games. Now that time is pretty minimal so as a result I see myself leaning towards the more casual side of the gaming spectrum. I play difficult games with my girlfriend, but only if it’s co-op or multiplayer and sadly RPGs really aren’t co-op, so I’m stuck trying to beat them...
