Noby Noby Boy Multiplayer and Other Thoughts On Stretching With A Boy Named Noby Noby

Keita Takahashi’s Noby Noby Boy is a video game available for download on the PSN, and you probably knew that, and if you’ve played it, you probably know that it’s fun and now you can play offline multiplayer. However, it’s really difficult for me to call Noby Noby Boy a video game as it’s really not one, but then again, I can’t exactly say that it’s not one.

People will argue that it’s not and some will argue that it is, and I really don’t argue whether or not it’s one or the other. I will say, that it’s sort of a video game and sort of a non-game. To really define it as a video game or not a video game is like using the annoyingly simple genre classification in media.

While some media creations really do fall in those pre-determined genres, the really great examples of media are genre-defying. Noby Noby Boy cleverly defies classification and you might as well not even try to wrap your head around with what exactly Takahashi’s is trying to convey with a title that focuses on a stretchy boy, stretching collectively with other stretchy boys trying to get a girl to stretch to other planets in real time.

You could say that reaching other planets is one of the game’s goals, but seriously the game has no goals and for that reason it’s really not a game, but it controls like a game, plays like a game, is fun like a game, and looks like a game.

Well it looks like a game on LSD.

An annoyance however with this new multiplayer update, as pointed out by me and further realized by my beautiful and perceptive girlfriend, is that it’s offline. You and your friends can’t upload your score to help Girl reach Mars, which is terrible because Keita said that this would be an issue if more people didn’t play. That’s why they made an iPhone game right?

My girlfriend said, “Do you really think they really want to make Mars levels?”

Yes, Rebecca, I do.

Or.

At least I hope they do, damn it.

I have to admit with the new editions of multiplayer and different music tracks and the amount of level and CPU/object varieties, Noby Noby Boy really is a bargain at $5, so what would keep them working on more free content as girl stretches?

Well, I believe that Keita Takahashi would probably be okay with giving away tons of free updates, but you have to consider Bandai-Namco and their complete whoring out of the Katamari series just to make an easy buck. I can’t imagine Noby Noby Boy in all it’s complete milky way galaxy form will be only $5.

I hope, but I doubt it.

Noby Noby Boy is required gaming/non-gaming if you have a PS3.

Seriously, you can turn up the fart volume in the settings.

Seriously.
