Majora’s Mask - The Last Area

When I think of Majora’s Mask, I often imagine the last area where the Nintendo 64 pushes its graphic power to place a blur/dreamy effect in a seemingly huge empty field with a single tree in the middle on a hill.

A boy creepily sits there and wears Majora’s Mask, and I remember he asks you whether or not you’ve collected all of the masks. If you have you can have the Fierce Diety’s mask, and own the rest of the game. The area in which this takes place in, is so fascinatingly strange, since the game doesn’t give any reason for the last area looking like this. I could say it was lazy of the dev team to create something without explanation, but the fact that it was left up to player interpretation is pretty endearing as well.

It’s just one of those gaming moments as a child, where you really don’t understand it, but you just hit the C-up button and go into first person mode and just slowly look around, wondering what mysteries lie ahead.
