The Obsession with Unboxing and The Vibe We Give The Industry
Why has it become okay for losers to film terrible quality video of themselves opening the newest electronics device on YouTube?

Secondly, when in the hell did it become fun to watch someone awkwardly struggle with the USB camera and whatever they’re unboxing a DSi while their pre-pubescent voice annoyingly explains what is plainly happening in the low resolution video.
It’s a strange material obsession, and while product design is important, video games have never been about what the game systems look like when they’re being unpacked.
People do give a shit, and it’s upsetting, because we need to focus on other things like, the great games, the problem and ripoffs associated with downloadable content, and this new obsession with releasing a new intentionally more imperfect than usual portable iteration of the PSP and DS every year or every other year.
These are some major issues, and when gamers show they’re obsessed with surface level things that really are ripoffs, then the game companies, pick up on this and begin releasing more shallow games, and more ripoff products. The Wii is a prime example of this, as most of it’s games are shallow, and with the onslaught of the Wii motion plus attachment, the Wii is becoming an incredibly expensive “inexpensive” console with some of the most expensive complete controllers of all time.
The video game industry’s relationship with consumers is not a democracy but with capitalism, we can cast our vote by paying for something great and not paying for something that is ripoff.
It’s up to us, the consumers to guide the industry, so let us please make informed decisions.
