Origins of Luigi

Mario Segale was Nintendo’s warehouse landlord back in the day and supposedly he looked like carpenter/plumber kind of guy and Miyamoto dug that so him and Nintendo named their new video game character Mario.

Like all great Italian plumbers created by the Japanese, Mario needed a brother so the obvious choice was to give him an identical twin named Luigi. Of course, Luigi eventually became a taller less fat brother in the future, but initially because of the pixel palette swap, we can say that they were identical overweight Italian brothers.

Was it really that simple?

Perhaps not.

In the film Wages of Fear, the main character is named Mario and he has a best friend and room mate named Luigi!

This changes everything.
