The Square-Enix Tax - good game get!

The Square-Enix Tax

The Square-Enix Tax is now a pretty common saying amongst gamers who used to enjoy Square-Enix releases but have since noticed the premium price tag that Square-Enix plays on their games. Especially the typical $10 price hike the place on their DS games.

While it’s perfectly legal and up to Square-Enix to determine how much their games cost, it’s important to note that almost every DS game launches at $29.99 or $34.99. The newest Square-Enix release to recieve the Square-Enix tax is Chrono Trigger DS which I can’t possibly imagine deserves to be priced at $39.99 but alas it is.

It’s ridiculous because the game isn’t even much different from it’s Super Nintendo version that it’s being ported from; and I can imagine that Square-Enix is making a killing off of the gamers who actually purchase it at the gouged price simply because it’s a Square-Enix game.

It’s dick moves from video game companies like Square-Enix that make piracy seem less and less like a bad thing for the industry and more of a wake up call for assholes that like pushing the consumer around.
