Should Remakes Be Reviewed On The Same Level as Original Titles?

Every time I visit Metacritic to look up the newest DS review, one thing always irks me.

Currently Chrono Trigger holds the number one DS game spot at 93, beating out original DS titles such as Mario Kart and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. It’s ridiculous that a game ported from the Super Nintendo should be thrown into the same group with all of the original DS titles that could deserve the number one spot.

I have nothing against Chrono Trigger, it’s just kind of ridiculous and pathetic that a remake is considered the best game on the DS according to Metacritic and the plethora of reviewers it aggregates it’s scores from.
