the importance of penny arcade
I know that I said I wasn’t going to post again until the new year; and I know I should be spending time with my family, including my girlfriend, (to whom I sadly can’t be with this evening due to schedule complications) but I felt I needed to write a little about Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik of Penny Arcade.
I can thank my girlfriend for this renewed interest in the duo’s insanely popular comic strip as she purchased the four out of the now five Penny Arcade books for me as a Christmas present. She also bought me a PSP, but we’ll get into that in 2009.
Penny Arcade is celebrating their tenth anniversary this year, which means I was ten years old when they were first penning one of the first comic strips about gaming and the culture surrounding it. It’s incredible how much they’ve been appreciated and how much their voice’s now matter on the industry.
They represent some of the most intellectual persons discussing and giving active commentary on the video game industry today. While their comics may be satirical, their intentions and news posts are really something to read.
The two define integrity in an industry that doesn’t have much of it. Penny Arcade wants the industry to be honest, and accountable, and to of course not put out shitty games.
It’s what we all really want deep down.
They just know how to convey it.
