Minimalist Pokémon Desktop Backgrounds

A really swell administrator over at PDLH.net has decided that they’ll possibly try and create a minimalist desktop wallpaper for each of the current 493 Pokémon.

While no promises are being made, it is a wonderful tribute project and I do dig rad minimalist art, especially when it’s mashed up with Pokémon!

Teej/TopHat has even made some wallpapers for the Isshu Region Pokémon that’ll be debuting in Black and White.
You can check out the continually updating wallpaper page, here.

One of the Newest (And Cutest) Pokémon Revealed: Shimama

It was revealed in the latest leak of the June issue of Japanese Coro Coro magazine that Shimama and six other new Pokémon are going to be in Black and White.
Here are translated deets on Shimama from Pokébeach:
It’s the Charged Pokemon, an Electric-type, and has Lightningrod or Motor Drive as its abilities. It has a new attack called “Wild Volt,” which does a lot of damage but also hurts the user. It is 0.8m tall and 29.8kg.
This really makes me wonder why it has taken GameFreak so long to come up with more elemental horse Pokémon. Better now than never!
I kind of felt the other six were a big ol’ snooze fest, but you can check ‘em out here.

Inspiration for Sandshrew and Sandslash: The Pangolin

I used to always think that Sandshrew and Sandslash were inspired by the armadillo, and boy was I wrong!
The totally cute and apparent inspiration for the two Pokémon is the pangolin.
So cute!
Biologist, Pokénerd, and On the Origin of Species editorial writer, George Hutcheon wrote a ridiculously geeky and awesome article on the similarities and the background of the pangolin for Bulbapedia’s Bulbanews.
It’s a pretty fascinating read, as I didn’t even know pangolins existed!
So I was wrong.
‘Tis okay though, as I’m just glad to finally see the new starters for Black & White and I think they look fairly über-cute as these new scans from CoroCoro magazine show.
Some folks tend to get all pissy pants about newer Pokémon designs not appealing to them, but seriously - the original 151 were cool and all and some contemporary Pokémon may seem like repeat ripoffs of older ones, but the games are upgrading and with them a new set/generation of Pokémon is released.
It’s the way it is.
Also check out the new trainer designs! I love the boy’s jacket and the girl has some mad cut offs with some deep pockets.
Their shoes are fairly rad too.

Silhouettes of Starters: Your first Pokédex Entry From Black & White

Pokémon Sunday this week revealed the negative spaces of the mysterious starter Pokémon from the new unreleased Pokémon Black & White games.
Fansite Pokébeach broke news of the reveal and produced a nice resolution screen of the silhouettes.
As depicted by my color-coded question marks, from left to right I think that the first is fire, the second is grass, and the third is water.*
I typically have always picked the water starter, but the fire Pokémon looks too damn cute to pass up and his silhouette has me the most excited! Perhaps it’s the curvy head, the symmetrical flame tail or the tiny feet and big belly?
Of course I could be wrong and have the types switched around! We’ll find out soon as Pokébeach writer, Water Pokémon Master says that the full images could appear as early as tomorrow via a leak from the CoroCoro manga magazine!
* My girlfriend thinks the order from left to right is grass, fire, and water.
